Why Professional Services (aka Consulting) vs. a Headhunter?
Many people ask the question what’s the difference between a person (or “a resource” as we say in the business) looking for a contract or looking for full time employment?
Simply put, Professional Services/Consulting organizations like BRYCA Solutions develop ongoing relationships with our consultants and our clients, placing you on short-term or long-term contracts that can be as little as three months to three years, depending on contract extensions and client funding.
Consultants who are looking for Professional Services contracts are typically folks who are “career” consultants. You’ve made a conscious decision to become incorporated and you are happy to move around organizations. You are your own boss and can decide which projects to choose or not to choose. If this is you right now, you may have dealt with several Professional Services or Consulting Firms. You have experienced working with Account Managers (AM) to establish a relationship for future work.
With headhunters, typically “it’s a one and done deal”, and they move onto the next. These organizations have established client relationships with firms that are seeking full-time staff. You are committing to being a full-time player on a team and there are no advantages to being incorporated. You will be able to enjoy the company perks whether they be benefits, Friday afternoons off in the summer, and paid vacation. Being part of an employee-based company will help you determine a career path within that organization, where you can move into more senior positions. However, once you are placed by the headhunting firm or staffing firm, there are usually restrictions on when they can pull you from that employer.
Both contracting and full-time employment have unique advantages.
